New system to manage 3,000 parking spaces at Al Aweer Market
DUBAI – DP World has joined forces with Parkin to introduce a fully automated smart parking system at the Al Aweer Central Fruit and Vegetable Market – Dubai’s largest fresh food trading hub.
The new system will manage approximately 2,500 light vehicle spaces and 500 for trucks, transforming parking efficiency at one of the busiest logistics zones in the region.
The technology will use licence plate recognition and real-time data to create barrier-free entry and exit, helping to reduce congestion and streamline traffic flow. The upgrade will enhance movement for traders, logistics providers and supply chain operators who depend on the market for daily business, particularly in the time-sensitive perishables trade.
Driving Dubai’s smart vision
Abdulla Bin Damithan, CEO and Managing Director of DP World GCC, said efficient logistics extended beyond port operations. “Every second counts in the perishables trade,” he noted, adding that the partnership with Parkin would make operations at the Al Aweer hub faster, smarter and more seamless.
Eng Mohamed Abdulla Al Ali, CEO of Parkin, said the collaboration brought advanced, technology-driven parking solutions to one of Dubai’s most vital commercial centres.
“By introducing seamless barrierless parking, we aim to improve traffic flow and ensure more efficient space use,” he said.
Expanding market reach
The initiative aligns with Dubai’s Smart City agenda and follows last year’s agreement between Dubai Municipality and DP World to develop the world’s largest integrated food trading and logistics centre.
The expanded zone aims to double the current market’s size and strengthen Dubai’s global fresh produce trade network.
